Anyone who is anyone knows that Yelp.ca is the best site for finding great local businesses in Canada, the United States and over 30 other countries around the world (including 6 in Asia alone). Right here in the 905, the Yelpmobile app is blowing up as local yelpers are sharing reviews and food porn pictures of their favourite (and not so favourite) businesses every single day. Some of those local faves will have booths right here at Night It Up! and we’ve got a hit list of some of the top spots you need to bookmark if you plan on yelping it up at Night It Up! this year!
1) Wei’s Taiwanese Food
The first thing that entice your appetite at a night market is definitely sticky tofu! It is not an authentic Asian night market, if it does not have that distinguish smell looming over the air.
Now that you got your stinky tofu, you have to go find bubble tea to hold in your other hand! We’ve got you covered since there will be many bubble tea booths at our event
3) Taste of China
Something that we always like is when we get the chance to try interesting foods, such as kimchi fries, which you will be able to find at this booth!
Another new food item that we haven’t see much of before are poke bowls and burritos! From the creators of Chatime, Me.n.u Food Truck and Bake Code, they will be bringing their new food creation to NIU! 2016.
5) Barcode BBQ
We’re nearing the end of this list, but how can we forget about classics like barbecued kebabs of various meats, like chicken, lamb or beef?
Last but not least, an Asian must-have like takoyaki must be consumed at any night market, so you will definitely be able to get your cravings satisfied at NIU! with this booth.
Yelp is one of the returning sponsors of Night It Up!, so make sure you use your Yelp app to ‘Check-in’ at the Yelp booth located at booth H6 to get your photo taken at their photo booth this weekend! Now, get your bookmark list ready and count down to our night market’s official opening day on Friday, July 15th, 2016.
We’ve got two baskets of goodies from our friends at Aveeno who have got all the lotions and potions you need to ensure you healthy looking skin.
Daily moisturizing, protection, and drinking water can be key to skin that looks great in your upper years. It’ll help with discolouration, sagging, and improve the overall texture. – cause who wants crusty and bumpy skin?
To snag a gift basket, what advice do you have for looking great and staying cool under the hot summer sun this summer?
Don’t forget to review our rules! Lots of important things to know if you happen to be the winner!
The best way to experience Night It Up! is to see everything right? Arbors Lane definitely think so, and they’re most looking forward to the energy you have to bring!
Originally consisting of drummer Christina (The Designated Driver), guitarist Luca (El Nino) and vocalist Jenny (The Closet Weeb), they’ve come a long way from their casual band high school days, on the way picking up guitarist Nick (The Weeb) and bassist Gabe (Bun Rieu) whom they met at Arbor Lane’s first show in 2014 where Nick and Gabe were part of other bands. Who would’ve thought a year later they would become a serious, Korean food-loving group?
Their first studio release was “True Contender in February 2015, and first performed all together on Halloween that same year. Moving forward to 2016, Arbors Lane has played in many shows and have released an EP titled “Prologue” in April. They’re currently taking a break from performances to promote it, though they’re constantly writing to produce more content.
This new and young band is always looking to improve and continue their growing success. Get ready Night It Up!, Arbors Lane is on the lineup card!

Fifteen. We are fifteen years old this year! Do you remember what things were like when you were fifteen? Perhaps you have yet to see what fifteen has in store for you… or maybe this is your fifteenth year on earth like us!
In fifteen years, Night It Up! has become one of the most popular events of the summer. We attract over 120, 000 patrons annually and host over 120 food and merchandise vendors… some of which have grown with us over the years! (…Because you either LOVE stinky tofu or love to hate it. :P)
Anita Ko, one of the founding members of Power Unit Youth Organization, explains that the organization and night market were youth driven at its grassroots. She and a group of friends were interested in self-development and asked themselves, “What can we do to apply what we [have] learned in school and [through] our textbooks to something more practical and meaningful?”
And thus, Power Unit Youth Organization was born! Soon after came their firstborn – Night It Up! (Formerly known as Asian Night Market – cause we’re OGs).
The organization that was started in a basement by ten university students in 2002 has since made several achievements. Some of these include:
- 400 bubble tea fuelled youth volunteers – including 200 core members in PUYO per year (70 of which work specifically on Night It Up!)
- 1 venue change – because Night It Up! outgrew it’s old parking lot
- Awarded $2000 in scholarships to its members
- Raised $113,000 for local charities
- Consumption of too many cups of bubble tea to fathom
- Inhaling an immeasurable amount of stinky tofu
Of course, none of this would have happened without YOUR continued support. YOU are the reason why we, volunteers, remain fired up and dedicated to improving Night It Up! every year.
So here is to another fifteen years to Power Unit Youth Organization and Night It Up! We’ll see you at this year’s event!
Get pumped! The volunteers of Power Unit Youth Organization have already been hard at work for the past few months getting Night It Up! 2016 in the works. Today, we share some VERY exciting news …
